A+ is an independent certification by the Computer Technology Information Association that is designed to measure a technician’s competence with hardware and software troubleshooting. The benefit of A+ certification is that is independent of any particular hardware or software vendor, and covers a wide range of topics, from DOS and Windows 3.1, to Windows 98, printers, modems, and processor architecture.
The Microsoft Certified Professional program is offered by Microsoft to show competency in their operating systems and products. Since Microsoft Windows (3.x, 95, 98, and NT) is the dominant operating system in the PC market, Microsoft certification is a valuable and necessary asset.
